Hiiiii-ya!! How is it going, huh?! I hope you had a fab first day of April!! Mine? Um, to be honest, it wasn’t THAT interesting; although, I was delighted to see the sun shining SO bright!!
SADLY, NO APRIL FOOLS JOKES WERE PLAYED HERE… Call me boring, lazy, or whatever you like, but I’m just no good at it! I think you’ll agree with me when I say, there is a definite art to the whole pranking thing and sadly, THIS artist here, doesn’t have the right touch or tools (people really get into it, you know?)!!Ā BOO, I’M NO FUN!!Ā
HOW IS YOUR DAY GOING?
Again, nothing too whimsically delicious over here, just a girl running a few miles, typing a few words, and (trying) to live her life to the fullest!! I did have an amazingly difficult Fartlek run yesterday, though and trust me when I say, I’m still feeling the aftermath!!
WOWZERS, TALK ABOUT BEING SORE and trying to stay calm in a tough situation!! Thank you Bryan Kest for giving me the mental strength and physical stamina to STAY STRONG in my run!! I did great (and felt pretty strong) pushing a 6:30(ish) pace during the ON portions of the 7.2 mile run! WOOHOO BODY, BRING ON THE HILL WORK…….tomorrow???!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just kidding, I’ll be fine!! Oddly, I kinda like hill repeats!! I know, I KNOW, I’m weird, right?!
DOES ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE LIKE HILL WORKOUTS?! Come on, I CAN’T be the ONLY one!!! Hehe!!
O-K, so I’ve covered MY lack of April Foolness, MY odd love for hill work, and oh yeah, MY sore, crying body…
SO, WHAT’S UP NEXT?! March Madness anyone? Hmmm, maybe a touchy subject for some of you (me included) with it being…
THE FINAL 4 THIS WEEKEND!!! Ohhh…my poor UVA, how I wanted them to win SO badly, but HEY, at least they won the ACC Tournament and Championship!! I have no qualms with that!!
Well, although I’m a huge basketball fan (thanks to my dad), sorry to say, but I’d rather talk about myself now. Wait, reverse it…
NOW MYSELF ABOUT TALK??? HUH??
Well, WHATEVER, unjumble the words and you geeeeeeet… (Say the magic words!! I LOVE RUNNING!!)
TA- DAAAAA!!! NOW, I’M TALKING ABOUT MYSELF!! This will be MY version of March Madness + everything I’ve learned this month!
LET THE MADNESS BEGIN!!! Let me first start by saying…
I TOTALLY KICKED MARCH’S BEEhind because I…
1] RAN SHAMROCK HALF MARATHON IN 1:37:50!!
2] HELLO, MET BRYAN KEST @ STUDIO DC!!! (This one deserved an extra exclamation mark!)
3] REJUVENATED MY VEGETARIAN DIET PLAN BY ADDING MORE PROTEIN!!
4] MET THE MOST AMAZING BLOGGERS EVER (All of you!)
5] CUT MY HAIR AND LOVED IT!!
6] BEGAN SERIOUSLY MEDITATING (The Meditation of Gratitude)!!
7] LOST 10 POUNDS OF BULK AND GAINED 10 POUNDS OF LEAN MUSCLE!!
(Note: Isn’t human nature funny? After naming all of those wonderful things, I’m still sitting here questioning, “Is that all?”)
Yes, that is all Kristin! Geez, I really need to cut myself a break sometimes!! Do you ever feel the same way?
WHAT I’VE LEARNED FROM MARCH (How it has kicked my BEEhind into gear, so-to-speak!):
1] PROTEIN IS IMPORTANT! IT KEEPS ME HEALTHY AND STRONG!
2] LIGHTER WEIGHTS + HIGHER REPS IS GREAT FOR BUILDING STAMINA!
3] LIFTING HEAVY WEIGHTS EVERYDAY FATIGUES MY BODY!
4] RUNNING = HAVING TO BE COMFORTABLE WITH BEING UNCOMFORTABLE!
5] LOSING WEIGHT IS ALL ABOUT MEAL PORTIONING!
6] PRing = THE DESIRE TO KEEP PUSHING!
Whelp, that’s about it for the day YOU wonderful bloggers YOU, so KEEP pushing, KEEP dreaming, and most importantly, KEEP loving!!!!
Xoxo,
Kristin

I liked your hill quote! I grew up in the Mississippi delta with no hills! So I am learning to love them in nashville!
Kristin
Ooooh Nashville!! So beautiful and THANK YOU so much for your comment!! I thought the hill quote was pretty cool!! I discovered it today and was like, I have to post it! The great thing about running hills is that when you get to the top, it’s alll downhill from there!! š Have a great day! XOXO!

Go Cats!
Kristin
YES!!! Half of my family is from Kentucky (and my dad was born and raised there), so aside from UVA, I’m a huge Kentucky fan!! I really want them to win!!!
Julie the Workaholic
Nice job on the bulk loss! I am so anxious for the weather to stay nice so I can get out there and run! Also…hill workouts. I’m looking for hills. š Shoot, I’d be happy with a convenient track or park where I wouldn’t worry about getting mugged, LOL…
Happy April! Bring on the SPRING!!! ā„
Kristin
Haha, Julie, you have THE BEST personality ever!! I love how clever you are!! You’re just brilliant!! š XOXO!!
Thank you so much for your compliment AND the weather has been pretty nice here so I’m happy to get outside anytime I can! YES, bring on SPRING!!
Julie the Workaholic
I am actually pretty stoked! It is in the low 80s this afternoon and my ride home will be top down, tunes up… š I just love warm weather!
Kristin
Awesome, ME TOO!! I love warm weather!! It really makes you feel SO happy and alive!! Have a fun ride home!! WOOHOO!!
thedancingrunner
I love your enthusiasm Kristin!! You are like a strong cup of coffee girlfriend!!
Cheers to attacking some hills and PR-ing! This year (now that I have run my 10 full marathons) I definitely am trying to focus on getting faster and stronger!
Kristin
THANKS!! Funny you say coffee because I’m drinking a nice cup right now! š
You’re so awesome!! 10 FULL marathons!! Wow, that’s an amazing accomplishment and honestly, I never could do it! That shows just how tough YOU are!! Cheers to you!

You’ve had a GREAT month! Bring on April!
Kristin
Yes, thank you SO much!!! XOXO!! š
Angie
I do love your attitude and hills (sometimes)! And congrats on meeting your yoga mentor (I didn’t get to comment on that blog). It’s so amazing when we meet our heroes.
Kristin
You’re right, it was so amazing to meet my mentor!! Such a fab feeling!! š Thank you so much for the compliment, too!! You’re so wonderful!

You’ve had quite an extraordinary March by any measure! The 10 for 10 swap for lean muscle is fantastic! Great job. As far as the practical jokes, I don’t do them anymore. I once taped shut the spray wand on the sink, and my wife turned on the sink just before she was going to work, and well, she wasn’t thrilled with me. š Have a great day!
Kristin
Haha, OH NO, I’m sure she was probably a tiny bit upset!! š Great joke, though!!
Thank you for your support, too!! You’re so kind!!
katyechols
I love the hills quote – but the hills… they hurt! I wish I could love them too!
Kristin
Awe, thank you!! There is a lot of truth to the quote and YES, hills do hurt!! That is definitely true!!
Thank you SO much for your comment!! XOXO!! š
frozencokefridays
Sigh… if only we had hills around here! š I’ve been so unmotivated lately, and to top it off I’ve caught my hubby’s cold, so no running around here lately. I enjoy reading your posts because they remind me of how AWESOME and FUN it is to be working hard towards a goal! Thanks! š
Kristin
Thank you so much!! XOXO!! š It really means a lot to hear you say this!
I’m so sorry you are sick and I really hope you feel better soon! š¦ That’s never fun!! Usually when I catch a cold, it’s always from my husband!! OH HUSBANDS!
Running Betty
I love hills too! (I am from Utah so we have so pretty big hills!;-) ) I find I pace myself better and get to switch up the muscles I’m engaging – plus it just feels great to push myself! Love the quote! And lots of great accomplishments to be proud of in just one short month!
Kristin
Thanks Kristine!! Hills are pretty cool to do because the entire workout is challenging, yet NOT boring at all! You’re so worried about getting up the hill that you’re not so focused on the pain of it all! š
Thanks for the compliment, too!! I appreciate it!
Sara Cooper
Ok first of all I love that grumpy cat pic. š
And yes, yes, yes to meal portioning and protein! It’s so key to maintaining/loosing weight and feeling healthy. Someone much smarter than me told me years ago “you can’t out-train a bad diet” and it’s completely true.
Sounds like you kicked March’s ass! Nice work!
Kristin
Haha, THANKS, and I love the grumpy cat, too!! He’s just so grumpy and adorable!! Hehe!
Meal portioning is definitely key for me! I also love my rejuvenated protein packed meals AND eating my favorite sweets in moderation!
That’s an absolutely TRUE quote you said!! I love it!!
leerunsdistances
Nicely written and just as humorous as usual Kristin lol. Ummm hill workouts what’s that??? We do speed bump intervals here in Florida hahaha. Looks like you had an amazing March chica and I know that your April will be just as fabulous š
Kristin
Awe Lee, haha, well, you’re just as brilliant as usual!! I SO look forward to your comments!! I love it, too- SPEED BUMP INTERVALS!! That’s too funny!! Haha!
Thank you so much for your kind remarks!!
leerunsdistances
No problem Kristin! Yeah, the last time I did any real hills was back in November when I visited Maryland and I thought I was going to die hahahaha
Kristin
Haha, yeah, they’re definitely tough!! I do understand that feeling!! š
Cat Hiles
I have a love/hate relationship with running hills! I’m trying to run more because I’m training for a super hilly marathon, but they are seriously tough! However, being able to run them without stopping is an awesome feeling š
Congrats on an incredible March! š
Kristin
I definitely understand where you are coming from and do agree that hill work is very challenging!! Wow, training for a very hilly marathon!! You are one tough cookie!! That is for sure!!
Thank you so much for being so sweet!! You’re such a nice person!!

Amy Christine
We don’t have hills in Florida so I have no idea what that is like. I have hiked mountains in Tennessee, Arizona and Colorado but no running hills. Someday but on the other side of that I have gone beach running š
And what a great post to start out April with! You have such a positive attitude, it is contagious! Congrats on everything on your list! It’s been great meeting you as well! Your hair looks great! and you totally killed the Shamrock!
You rock!!
Kristin
Awe Amy, thank you so much!! I enjoy everything you post so much and I always look forward to our wordpress conversations!! You’re so cool!! š
You make a great point with beach running BECAUSE although I live very close to several beaches, I’m terrible at it!! I can lay out (in the sun) like a champ but oh boy can I NOT run on the sand! I definitely need to work on that before my next run-swim-run! It really kills my time!
piratebobcat
Awesome post! Honestly, I also enjoy hill workouts. I think it comes from high school track. Whenever we were on a training run, our coach would make us “attack” every hill. It became instinct to pick up the pace when I hit a hill.
Kristin
Thanks so much!! I love the “attack” part of it!! It’s really cool to feel like you’re increasing speed as you go up, right?!! That’s such a good point!!
2 Cups 'N Run
What a month! Hope April is as exciting! š
Kristin
Thank you!!! I always appreciate your kind words!! XOXO! š
Heidi
Love the part about being comfortable with being uncomfortable with running– I’m slowly learning that just because I’m breathing hard, it doesn’t mean that I am suffocating! š
Kristin
YES!! That was totally my point!! It does take a little mental adjusting, but yes, once you realize that you’re okay and that your body responds to calmness, you learn to relax and enjoy the run more!
Heidi
That’s a good way to think about it- that your body responds to calmness. Filing that away for the next hard run that pops up on my plan! ā¤ļø
Kristin
Awww, fantastic!!! Thank you!! XOXO!!!
stridingmom
Hill loving, March hair chopper here! I live in an area where I cannot avoid any hills at all so I’ve learned to just embrace them!
Kristin
Awesome!! Another March hair chopper!! Fabulous!! I guess with the hills, if you can’t beat them, join them for the ride right? Nice!!
sarahdudek80
Ugh don’t love the hills. But I also don’t hate them either. I know they are good for you though!
Kristin
Well, that’s a good way to look at it for sure!! Great attitude!! š Thanks!! XOXO!!
Run With Rabbits
I love hill workouts, but where I run in town is flatter than a pancake. There’s an incline that is like the 3.0 on the treadmill, and it lasts for like 100 feet haha! I should really find a hilly area to workout in…
I’m with you on your March lessons – I always feel like I can do more. But girl you KILLED IT. 1:37 for the Shamrock half? I dream about running that fast!
And nope, I can’t prank people either. I think I expect too much of an outcome, so I’ll start laughing before they can fall for the prank. Orrrr I’m just not creative enough. Either way, no one got me this year, so it was a successful day!
Kristin
Haha, oh my gosh, I laughed SO hard at your last paragraph because I’M THE SAME WAY!! HAHA!! I try to get my husband with little jokes and stuff during the week (because he gets me all the time) and I ruin it by laughing as I’m trying to trick him! I’m silly! š
Thank you so much, too for the compliments!! I really appreciate it and yes, hill work is great!! Hehe, well 100 feet is better than nothing!! š I love that you like hills, too!!
Pretty Little Grub
You had quite the month! Way to go. Hill workouts are evil…
I love your blog and I nominated you for a Liebster Award! Check out my latest post on it. Hope you will join! http://prettylittlegrub.com/2014/04/03/id-like-to-thank-the-academy/
Kristin
You’re sooooo sweet!!! LOVE YOUR BLOG, TOO!!! Thanks a bunch!!
Haha, those evil hills!!! I’ve come across quite a few evil ones myself!! They NEVER cut ya a break! š
weight2lose2013
OMG. I didn’t see Pretty Little Grub’s nomination. Looks like you have two this week:
